Why I Chose to Showcase This Proposal and This Storyboard

I am showcasing this Proposal and this Storyboard because this project was my first time working in a development team.  Also, this project was my first time having to liaise with Subject-Matter Experts (SMEs) to build an educational aid. Furthermore, this project lies at the intersection of two of my passions and they are English literature and Education. The goal of this project was to give students an educational resource that I wish that I had during my undergraduate degree.

The Skills Shown in The Proposal and The Storyboard
Teamwork Skills

I paired with Chloe Keane to complete this project because teamwork gives you access to a wider variety of knowledge and skills (Markel and Selber 2018). As this section of the project had two elements (the proposal and the storyboard), I formulated the proposal and Chloe formulated the storyboard.  We maintained a symbiotic relationship as both documents relied on one another for completion. Subsequently, the proposal and the storyboard show my ability to communicate clearly with my teammate to produce a proposal and storyboard with coherent information.

Furthermore, the proposal shows my research skills. The goal of the proposal is to show that the project is needed. Thus, I made sure to research learning theories like the Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing, and Kinaesthetic (VARK) learning styles theory (Fleming and Mills 1992). This theory became the theoretical framework for the project. Furthermore, I ensured that every design choice was justified. For example, during my research, I discovered that sans-serif fonts were best for on-screen reading (Altaboli 2013). So, I decided that Helvetica would be a good choice of font for the resource hub. The research process for this project has shown me that design choices must be justified in the professional world. I cannot make choices based on aesthetic value alone. There must be an advantage to the design choices made in both technical writing and instructional design.

What I Learnt from Writing these Documents

The most important thing that I learnt during these documents’ formulation is the value of teamwork. Teamwork stimulates idea production and allows the project to progress at a much quicker pace as the workload is divided between the team members. Also, this project has shown me the benefit of researching design choices. Since I researched every aspect of the resource hub’s design, I can defend every design choice that I made within the hub. The time I spent researching the design choices gave me more confidence when submitting the proposal because I knew my choices were justified.
